Obituary of Florence Louisa Guthrie
Florence Louisa Guthrie of Belwood was born Aug. 6, 1936, and Passed away peacefully in her sleep at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus Jan. 23, 2024, in her 88th year.
Born to Charles and Daisy Pierce, original Homesteaders, at Pine Lake Alberta.
Florence married Donald Guthrie, a handsome young Canadian Airforce airframe mechanic, stationed at Penhold Alberta. They raised four children, three boys and one girl, while being moved back and forth across Canada. They finally settled at Ponsonby, Fergus, then Belwood after Don left the Airforce.
Flo, as she liked to be called, took a job at Simmons Furniture factory in the sewing department and quickly moved up to lead hand there. After leaving Simmons she took up upholstery from home. She eventually opened a craft and hobby store in Fergus, with Don and Sharon. Flo also liked painting, sewing, knitting and crochet and used these talents to bless family and friends with the gifts she made.
Flo was predeceased by her son Ronnie in 1977 and her husband Don in 2012.
She will be greatly missed by her children. David (Brenda), Ken (Brenda), Sharon (Matt), and her Grandchildren; Rachel, Veronica, Melody, Carla, Chris, Amy, Steven, and Caleb, Eli (father David Barker), and many Great grandchildren. Also missed by nieces and nephews, unofficially adopted family and many friends.
Funeral Service to be held at the Brombal Funeral Home 1 Delhi St. Guelph ON on Monday Jan. 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to service time. Reception to follow in the Trillium Room of the funeral home. The Interment will be held at Memory Gardens, Breslau.
