Obituary of Ian Weir
Weir, Ian
April 14, 1959 – March 23, 2019
Surrounded by people who loved him, Ian passed away on Saturday March 23.
Survived by his wife, Elaine (nee Kratzer), daughters Levi, Haley, Maggie (Mark Raco). Also remembered by his mother Margaret, his brother Craig (Pauline and their children), and his sister Janice. Ian is also survived by in-laws and had many nieces and nephews on Elaine’s side of the family. Predeceased by his father, John Crumlish Weir.
Ian started his career working in the Canadian Air Force. From there, he went to work for Metro Toronto Police as a first-class constable. Ian and Elaine then moved to Guelph to raise their family, where he worked as a special constable at the University of Guelph. While at U of G, Ian took on the role of manager of Sustainable Transportation and Parking Services. Ian was responsible for streamlining transportation in and out of the university. One of his major accomplishments was designing and implementing the bus loop on campus. His manager and colleagues were impressed with the value Ian added to his work at the University.
Ian’s quiet and calm personality allowed him to remember details about everyone he met and places he visited. He was a great listener, attracting many friends. His sarcastic one liners always let you know he was paying attention. As tough as nails and more scars than a Viking, Ian took everything in life without complaining.
