Obituary of Douglas Elliott Norman
Norman, Douglas Elliot ~ Doug passed away at Guelph General Hospital, peacefully, in his sleep on Friday August 16, 2019 at the age of 88. He is predeceased by his wife Bernice who passed away in 2007. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his children; Tim, Scott (Johanna) and Jeff; by his grandchildren; Lisa, Jessica, Amanda and Jennifer and by his brothers; Gerry (Barb) and Ed (Nancy). He will also be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Audrey Betts and the Betts family.
Doug’s lifelong passion was teaching and the development of young adults. He taught at the High School level for 32 years. He loved sports and started his teaching career as a Physical Education instructor at GCVI. He was a tireless and inspirational coach of football, rugby and wrestling teams, leading teams to several provincial championships. Doug was awarded a Master of Education Degree from Niagara University. In his later years of teaching, he specialized in children with exceptional needs. Doug loved life and was known for his sense of humour. He was the master of a thousand jokes. He travelled extensively and chaperoned many high school trips to Europe and Hawaii. A private family graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 24th. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
