Obituary of William Stubbert

Stubbert, William Lorence of Guelph, Ontario, passed away at home on November 19, 2013 of ALS. William was born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia. He joined the Ontario Regiment of the Canadian Armoured Brigade in 1940 and was a Dispatch Rider during World War Two. He saw action in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Holland. When he returned home to Cape Breton, he met his wife Kathleen and they settled in Ontario. William worked for Canadian General Electric for 37 years. He primarily worked as a Supervisor in the Guelph plant and a field supervisor in the Toronto office. He enjoyed woodworking, renovating, reading and writing and was committed to daily acts of kindness. He was also actively involved in the Board management of the church and he served as the Noble Grand for the I.O.O.F. Guelph Lodge for two terms. William is survived by his wife, Kathleen and his children James, Heather (James Lethbridge), Mark (Sandra Stubbert), and Dana (Robin Stubbert); his grand-children, Jennie Link, Kaitlin Peaker, Krista Plewes, and Jack Stubbert; his great grand-children, Sophie Scudetto, Benjamin Peaker, Stephanie Plewes, and Lauren Peaker; his siblings, Orville Stubbert, Yvonne Johnston, Elaine Blagdon and George Stubbert; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Crane (Bernard Crane), Gwendolyn Butts; and several loving nieces and nephews. William is preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence, and six sisters: Louise, Marcella, Sylvia, Gloria, Isabelle, and Bernadette. Also, by his loving grand-daughter, Stephanie Kathleen Stubbert. The funeral service will be held at Westminster St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 206 Victoria Road North, Guelph, on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. Reverend Karla Wubbenhorst will be officiating. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life reception will be held following the service at The Guelph Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Westminster St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church or to ALS Canada.
