Muriel Young

Obituary of Muriel Young

Died a gentle death at home, with Marilyn and Sarah at her side, in her 96th year, on March 21, 2013. Born July 7th, 1917 in Burford Township to Albert Reynolds Sibbick and Leta May Secord. Muriel was the cherished wife of Lawrence William Young ( predeceased in 1992) for 54 years. Adored mother of James Lawrence (predeceased December 2012) and William Garry (Lousie) of Toronto and Marilyn of Guelph. Caring and thoughtful grandmother to Garry Lawrence (predeceased September 2011) (Nicola), Leah (Ouesim), Bradley James (Brandy), Brent Andrew (predeceased May 2011), Sarah Leta May Harnock (Tim) and Craig Owen. "Great" grandmother to Aaron, Normann, Cameron, Olivia, Taber, Neven, and soon to be baby Harnock. Devoted sister to Dorothy Brittian (Russell) (predeceased February 2010). She will be deeply missed by many loved nieces and nephews. Muriel married in 1938, moved to Sudbury where she and Lawrence raised their family, ran a business and were active in their community. They retired and spent their winters in Florida and traveled the world with their many friends. In her early years, Muriel was active in St. Paul’s United Church and worked as a volunteer at the Sudbury Memorial Hospital gift shop. She was always ready with a helping hand. Muriel was a lifetime member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served for 60 years. This was one of her greatest interests which she shared with her husband, daughter Marilyn and granddaughter Sarah. Her experience in the "order" took her on many travels and made her many, many friends. In 1994, she received the rose medallion from General Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, presented in recognition of the highest acclaim for outstanding and continuous dedicated service rendered within the community and the chapter while serving the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed people, had a great sense of humour, and through her years, knew how to have a lot of fun. She was known by all that knew her as a beautiful "lady". Our family would like to express our thanks to Dr. Shannon Hutton whom she referred to as her "guardian angel", she truly loved you. To her team of personal support workers from the Independent Assisted Living Program (I.A.L.P). You all know who you are that assisted her for two years in conjunction with Paramed, what a fabulous team and great program for this community. Also CCAC palliative team, case workers, nurse practitioners in conjunction with spiritual care providers. Bayshore staff of PSW's and nurses. Collectively, all of you too numerous to name, made this journey all that our mother desired and all that we needed 24 hours a day..... To an end of life experience so beautiful, calm, private and peaceful, honoring the essence of exactly who our mother was and how she lived. Thank you is not enough to all of you that participated in this beautiful experience and the gift you gave to us. Last, certainly not least, to all of Marilyn and Sarah's clients, who throughout the years in Guelph, adopted Muriel as their "grandma" or Mrs. Young, with flowers, homemade knit socks, quilts, gift certificates, baked goods and the amazing pumpkin fudge at Thanksgiving. She moved to Guelph in 1999 and loved her new home and was readily accepted into her new community by all her new friends. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Cremation has taken place.
