Obituary of Dr. Frank Farmer

Farmer, Dr. H. Frank ~ Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Hospice Wellington on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the age of 93 years. Beloved husband for over 68 years of Marguerite Rooney. Loving father of Frances Pilon (Eric) of Burlington, Roslyn Farmer of Thornhill, Joanna Farmer (Gordon Herbert) of Montreal and Jocelyn Farmer Proulx (Normand) of Richmond Hill. Proud grandfather of Bradley Pilon (Heather Foster), Chris Pilon (Kristen Garringer), Meghann Proulx, Alex Proulx, Louis-Philippe Normand and Elizabeth Normand. Great grandfather of Brier, Ro and Easton. Dear brother of Richard Farmer (Jane) of PEI, Rosemary Bayne (Ian) of Ottawa, Phyllis Trotter and Peggy Bradshaw (Charles) all of Barbados and the late Graeme Emtage, Esther Warner and Dorothy Blain. Fondly remembered by cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and dear friends. A proud Barbadian, Frank came to Canada to study medicine at McGill University, graduating in 1945. He established his surgical practice in Guelph, in 1951. During the 1970’s, he was chief surgeon for Hanover and Palmerston Hospitals. Of his numerous accomplishments, he was noted for introducing cervical cancer screening clinics to southern Ontario during his service to the Canadian Cancer Society. He served Wellington County as president of the Medical Society and of the Dufferin Victorian Order of Nurses and also as a Coroner. Dr. Farmer also served on Guelph City Council and was an elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Friends may call at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph on Thursday (from 6 to 8 p.m.) Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 161 Norfolk Street, Guelph on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Private family interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society - Wellington County Unit or to Hospice Wellington would be appreciated.
