Passed away peacefully at Nithview Community, Tri-County Mennonite Homes, New Hamburg, on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Doug Ingram, in his 93rd year, was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen (Sixtus). He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Elizabeth (Michael O’Dwyer) and Anne (Brian Carr), his sons, Mark (Marilyn Fitton) and Douglas (Anne Teri), granddaughters, Katie (Matt Sims) Ashley (Corey McArthur), Laura (Patrick Wallace), and Megan (Andy Hamilton), grandsons, Reilly O’Dwyer (Lisa Hall), Michael Ingram (Michelle Bornino), Blake Carr and James and Jacob Ingram , as well as great-grandchildren, Chad and Owen Sims, Charlie, Kaitlyn, Emily, and Payton McArthur, Ella and Ava Ingram, and Molly O’Dwyer. He will also be very much missed by his long time companion, Alice Gingrich, her daughter Kim (Carol) and her son Paul (Debra).
He was predeceased by his son, John (2007), parents, Harold and Francis, his brothers, Kenneth and Edward and his sister Marlene Marshall. Doug was an avid cyclist for many years, fulfilling a life dream when he retired in his 65th year by cycling 7500-kilometres across Canada and dipping his wheels into both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Doug believed in living a healthy lifestyle. For years, he walked the six kilometres to and from work and, in addition to biking long distances, his recreational pursuits included skating, cross-country skiing and walking for pleasure. Throughout his years, he read voraciously about Canadian and world politics and the history of Canada, with a particular emphasis on Guelph, his lifelong hometown.
When left with five children after the premature passing of his wife, Helen, Doug worked hard and long and heroically to keep his family together. Those were difficult years for Doug but he persevered with patience and fortitude and his family gives thanks for his unwavering dedication to them. The family also wishes to thank the Nithview Community staff who provided stellar care and support while Doug was in long term care in their facility. They were outstanding.
The family will be having a private graveside service under the direction of GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home. Memorial contributions to the Salvation Army would be appreciated. We invite you to leave your condolences and donations online at www.gilchristchapel.com
