Obituary of Pal Fischer
FISCHER, PAL
Passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 16, 2016 at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, with his family by his side. Pal was born in Budapest, Hungary, 76 years ago. He was the son of the late Arpad and Erzsebet (Kardos) Fischer.
Beloved husband of 50 years to Olga, and dear father to Alex, Dan (Karen), and Suzanne (Jason Crane). He was a loving Papa to Madison and Ethan, and a proud Grandpa to Ally and Carter.
After receiving his PhD in Mathematics in Budapest, Pal taught briefly in France before accepting a position at the University of Guelph in 1970. He has been there since, devoted to the advancement of mathematics through his research and his teaching. Pal published numerous papers and collaborated with mathematicians around the world. His intelligent, kind, and gentle manner will be greatly missed by his family, colleagues, friends, and students.
A graveside service will be held on Friday November 18th in the Beth Isaiah Section at Woodlawn Memorial Park cemetery at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pal’s honour may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
